Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2023 : Review

Kilchoman Loch Gorm is a single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Kilchoman distillery on the Scottish island of Islay. This whisky is named after a nearby loch that is famous for its trout fishing.

For the 2023 Edition Anthony and Robin selected a total of 22 oloroso casks, 8 distilled in 2013, 6 distilled in 2014, and 8 distilled in 2015.

Nose: The aroma is dominated by rich notes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and roasted coffee beans. There is also a hint of peat smoke, but it is not overpowering.

Palate: On the palate, it is full-bodied and complex, with a rich and creamy texture. The sherry influence is immediately apparent, with flavors of raisins, figs, and dates, along with a hint of honey and vanilla. The smoky notes are more pronounced on the palate, with flavors of peat smoke, charcoal, and toasted oak.

Finish: The finish is long and warming, with the smoky notes lingering on the tongue. The sherry influence also continues, with flavors of dark fruit and spices.

Overall, Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2023 release is a well-balanced and complex single malt whisky that is sure to please fans of both peated and sherried whiskies. The combination of peat smoke and sherry sweetness makes for a unique and enjoyable drinking experience. The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, which gives it a nice kick without being too overpowering.
