This is a stunning release of Port Ellen from infamous independent bottling company Gordon & MacPhail. Distilled in 1979, this 40 year old is the oldest bottling of Port Ellen to date. Matured in a sherry cask and bottled at 54.7%, quite remarkable for a 40 year old whisky! Lots of coffee beans, tar, engine oil and leather on the nose. The palate has a burst of guava, nectarines, chocolate cake and soft peat. On the finish we have never ending notes of brine, smoke, tar and liquorice.
