Fable Whisky Chapter One : Clanyard – Caol Ila 12 Year Old

An exciting concept from an exciting new bottler: Fable Whisky brings us its first ever installment of intriguing whiskies inspired by Scottish myth and legend.

Clanyard Chapter One is a single cask bottling of 12 year old Caol Ila bottled at a healthy 56.8% ABV.

They say : Distinctive and trademark smoke notes on the nose. Evocative of a sea port at low tide. Charcoal-like beach barbecue. The smell of an extinguished wood hearth in the morning. The rich woody smoke carries on to the palate. Earthy, rugged and reminiscent of the harbour-side. A beach barbecue of flavours, with some delicious lemon juice poured over grilled sardines. Surprisingly gentle and ordered, with fading oily smoke and burned and orange pith.

We say : We’re big fans of Caol Ila and this is a particularly good one. Definitely a less “pithy” style than many we’ve had, with a gentler peat and a balance that carries this into “must have” territory!
