Balvenie King of Casks 36 Year old

Balvenie King of Casks 36 Year old is a ‘tea spooned’ Single Cask Oloroso Finished Whisky. A single malt in all but name, our cheeky friends at Balvenie add a teaspoon of single malt from one of their sister distilleries to the the cask, therefor technically it has to be labelled as a Blended Malt. This doesn’t impact the flavour whatsoever, so essentially you are getting a 36 Year Old Balvenie Double Wood for an incredible price.

Nose: An elegant, layered bouquet opens with honeycomb, ripe orchard fruits, and candied orange peel. Waves of vanilla fudge, toasted almonds, and buttery shortbread emerge alongside polished oak, antique leather, and delicate floral heather. As it develops, subtle notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, dark toffee, and a whisper of cigar box add impressive depth without overwhelming the whisky’s inherent freshness.

Palate: Luxuriously silky and perfectly integrated. Sweet malt and acacia honey lead into baked apple, poached pear, and dried apricot, complemented by rich caramel, crème brûlée, and roasted hazelnuts. Mature oak provides structure through gentle spice, cocoa nibs, and soft tannins, while hints of beeswax, orange marmalade, and warming ginger create an evolving complexity that rewards slow appreciation.

Finish: Exceptionally long and refined. Lingering notes of honeyed oak, vanilla pod, dark chocolate, and gentle baking spices gradually fade into dried fruits, toasted almonds, and a delicate touch of oak polish, leaving a graceful, memorable impression.
