Nc’Nean Single Cask Whisky – The Story Behind Our Exclusive Bottling
From the very beginning, Whisky Fix has had a close relationship with our neighbours at Nc’Nean Distillery. Our journey with them began years ago, when head distiller Gordon was still crafting spirit at Oban Distillery. Since then, we’ve admired everything the Nc’Nean team stands for.
Led by Annabel Thomas, the distillery is known for producing organic, carbon neutral, and sustainable whisky. Over time, we’ve come to know key members of the Nc’Nean family, including Amy and others who make the distillery such a special place. Nc’Nean has become more than a whisky brand to us – it’s a partner in our shared passion for exceptional Scotch.
The Journey to Morvern
When we were invited to choose an exclusive single cask from Nc’Nean, we jumped at the chance. In February 2025, we set off on the scenic journey to the Morvern peninsula. The weather was typical for the Highlands – moody and atmospheric – but the welcome at the distillery was warm and unforgettable.
Gordon led us into the dunnage warehouse, scrambling across barrels and opening up a range of single casks for us to explore. Each one was unique, and narrowing it down was no easy task.
Choosing the Right Cask
After a day of tasting, comparing, and enjoying a delicious lunch with the team, we took home a selection of samples to review further. One stood out above the rest.
The cask we selected was an ex-bourbon barrel (AON 17-245), filled in 2017. It perfectly captured the Nc’Nean distillate character, with vibrant citrus notes, a waxy mouthfeel, and a clean, fresh finish. This was a whisky that felt truly special, and we knew it was the one.
